Mission
The mission of ACLD is to open the door to success for children and adults with Specific Learning Disabilities and related disorders through highly specialized and individualized education programs and services which lead to self-sufficiency, employment, and financial independence.
ACLDs vision is a:
- World in which the causes of Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) and related disorders are understood and addressed.
- World in which all individuals with SLD and related disorders are empowered to thrive and participate fully in society.
- Future in which all the individuals receiving our services can experience hope, find success in their endeavors and realize their full potential.
- Future in which SLD and related disorders can be prevented.
ACLDs guiding principles are:
- Provide accessible, high-quality, cost-effective programs and services that assist individuals with Specific Learning Disabilities and related disorders in developing educational, social, and career skills.
- Heighten the awareness of Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) as a cluster of lifelong neurobiological disorders affecting 1 out of 7 Americans. SLD range in degree of severity and can be diagnosed and successfully managed.
- Furnish information, referral and advocacy assistance to individuals with SLD and related disorders, their families, state, local, and federal agencies, and other human service providers.
- Create public and/or private partnerships to further advance educational services for individuals with SLD and related disorders.
- Encourage and participate in research on the prevention, causes, and treatment of SLD and related disorders.
