The ACLD Adult Program was closed in February of 2006 due to a significant cut in state and federal funding. ACLD was not able to fill this funding gap. Unfortunately, state and federal funding for adults with disabilities remains low.
ACLD continues to seek sustainable sources of funding in order to reopen the program, which was located in downtown Pittsburgh. In the interim, ACLD is only able to provide information services and basic advocacy assistance.
The ACLD Adult Program, created in 1974, provided specific skill development and training for adults who needed assistance in improving essential school, work and life skills. The program specialized in helping adults with a range of disabilities to obtain a high school equivalency diploma, successfully complete a post-secondary program, gain or maintain employment, or progress along the career ladder. The program was an approved service provider of the PA Department of Labor and Industry Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.
